Near the close of the year

Greetings and every blessing to you as we get near the close of the year 2007. Vera and l sincerely appreciate all the encouragements you have given us during the harsh time we have been passing through. The whole month of October was filled with all sorts of pain as we nursed Vera’s late brother. Our big consolation is that Bernard gave his life to the Lord and we have a strong sense of belief that he is in God’s hands. Our present task is to give support to the widow and the four children left by their father. The work of looking after widows and orphans does not seem to end for us. We have the confidence in you all to continue supporting us prayerfully.

Presently we have our first born daughter Chola and her daughter living with us after her husband sent her away from their home. He comes from a different tribe and his parents have influenced him to leave her and get a woman from their tribe. Pray for Chola and her first born daughter (from her late husband) that she will charter her own course of life. She has now ample time to teach at Joy Community School. We are sure God is in control- John 15:27-28 does encourage us and we have good reason to move on Christ.

The Joy Community School: A wonderful track record of this year encourages us a great deal.
(i)The academic progress of our children has been excellent and we are grateful to our God. We shall have some boys and girls promoted to upper primary level next year. Enrollment of new pupils starts in December this year.
(ii)School projects for sustainability have been very successful. The banana plantation has expanded covering a very large area within the school grounds. The first fruits of bananas are to be harvested in January next year!!!!!The school has acquired two water large water tanks and an electric water pump to make the school self-sufficient regarding water. Chicken rearing programme is proving to be very successful also. The second batch of chickens to be reared will be started on 22 nd November. We have had a number of lessons in chicken rearing and we hope to do better in the near future. The house for the teachers is completed and three families are getting ready to move in after the construction toilets. We give honour and glory to God for all that He has done for us through your help. On behalf of the Joy Community School and the community at large we send heartfelt thanks and gratitude. Continue praying for the school and its teachers who are laboring voluntarily to
educate the needy boys and girls. Many more challenges lie ahead of us as a school in the coming year especially looking after our dear teachers and constant supply of learning materials termly.

May God almighty richly bless you all this Christmas and New Year. Kindly continue keeping in touch with us.

Prayer points are as follows:

  1. Teachers’ upkeep termly
  2. Text books termly
  3. Banana fertilizer which is applied every month
  4. Customs fees for the donated clothes (the government is asking for 130 pounds equivalent) while they will pay on our behalf more than 1,400 pounds equivalent
  5. More water pipes for the banana plantation (the plantation has expanded and needs more water)
  6. School bus repairs (the bus is grounded and needs attention in a proper garage).
  7. Chicken feeds for the month of December just before the chickens are ready for selling.

We send our love to all the saints in the parish and may God almighty bless you all.

Vera is improving

Vera is improving in her painful leg. She is taking panadols and brufen as instructed by the doctors and it seems to be working.Thank you very much for your prayers.
The funds came in and we are so thankful to you all for the wonderful hearts of giving you have. We are happy that we have been able to pay for electricity in advance, we have more chickens bought, the ablusion block of toilets and bathroom for the children is extended, we have bought maize for the feeding programme for the children once a week and the teachers are being paid allowances to motivate them and more school radios have been bought. We still have some of the money in the bank to be used as we go on with the programmes of the school this term and the next.

We are very grateful to you all in the parish.Dear ba Jan give this special appreciation to all the saints and let them know without their giving we could be no where with our programmes in Joy Community School. You are our life line and we are so thankful. The visitors who came saw the progress that we are making and they were impressed very much.

The malaria I had has cleared and I am doing more exercises and walking with Vera around the school. Thankyou for your prayers. Peter and his friends brought us more medicines which we are using in the school too for the children who fall sick.

Give our love to all the saints in the parish.

Chickens!!!!!

We have accomplished the chicken shelter and we have 100 chickens in the shelter!!!!!
It was hard work which kept us away from any other work. As soon as we received the money from the church there we started doing the work flat out and we are very happy to tell you that now we are looking after 100 chickens which should be ready in the coming two months. Kindly be praying for us as we do this project which we hope will be very helpful to the school in the months to come. We have built a very big shelter for the chickens capable of housing 600 chickens.
As soon as we have more money we shall get more chickens so that we utilise the space in the shelter. The chickens eat alot and so we constantly have to buy the feeds to keep them healthy. Kindly pray with us that more money comes to have more chickens being reared and in return have more profit for the school.

Blessed New Year

May the good Lord and our Saviour continue blessing you in this new year.
Vera and I and all the children and our grand children and the Joy Community SCHOOL teachers and children send our love and every complement of the New Year and we wish you the best in this year 2007. You are our reason for the joy that we enjoyed in the last year!!!!You added value top our lives and we are so excited that the Lord has put us together in His calling of serving mankind. We send our love and complements of the new year to the church and all the brethren at Okewood. You are a big blessing to us and you have positively impacted our lives with your love and care you have shown over the years. Our prayers in the new year shall always be with you dear friends. We love you all dearly.

We had a very quiet yet encouraging time of Christmas and New Year at Kawama in the Joy Community School. We had prayers for the new year and we had lunch together. We had time to pray for you all in the parish as well.

We at Joy Community SCHOOL would like to thank you all for the wonderful work you have done in the past year. You have given alot of support to the school and we are so thankful to you all. We could have failed to fulfill the vision that the Lord had given us to give help to the needy youths and children of our poor area, but with your help we have been able to give support to these souls. Our prayers are daily made on your behalf that the Lord who has called you to the Joy Community School shall continue encouraging you and blessing you. Vera and I are asking for your prayer support as we do this work among the poor of Zambia. It is not going to be easy in this year again. Poverty levels continue rising and the HIV/AIDS pandeminc is still threatening many lives in Zambia. We have the will and the determination to do this work. Your partnership with us has been a great encouragement. We also ask for your prayers on behalf of my family. We have been a target of many bad suituations in our area. We have children in secondary school whom we would like to be educated and be helpful citizens in our community. Kindly pray for them that the Lord shall be gracious to them and given them the power to live for Him, amen!!!!
Bwalya sat for his juniour secondary examinatiopn and he is waiting for the results this month. Pray for him. He wants to be a doctor or engineer.

We are glad the house for the teachers is completed and ready for use in the coming month. The bananas are doing very well with the coming of the rains and we are very happy. We have maize cultivated and we look forward to a bumper harvest.

School opens next week Monday. We are ready to go back and teach the children.

Dearly beloved matron Jan Moir,
Big love and greetings from Vera and I and all the teachers and children of the Joy Community School. We hope that you have been refreshed after the tour of France on the special tandem. We all look forward to your other ride now to Zambia!!!!!Amen.

We have been doing our walking with Vera and we are feeling light and ready to do more work in the Joy Community School to help the needy youths and children. The children are very excited with all the balls and the books ,etc from the parish. There are competitions with other schools during the weekends and it is very exciting to be part of what is happening in the school. We have the pictures from big Mike displayed both in our home and at the school. It is very memorable.

Give our love and greetings to all the saints and tell them we love them very much. We eagerly look forward to your trip over here in the coming few weeks and we will send you the programme you shall be involved in as you come over here for the 11 days of ministry in Ndola.

I want to pay special thanks to you for your love and care for me during my time with you all in the parish. You are a very special link in all that the Lord is doing in Joy Community School.

I have had a very busy 11 days since I came back from the U.K. While I was still in the U.K I received sad news of the passing away of my niece whi has left 6 children. I went to the funeral to console my elder sister in Mufulira and we only came back yesterday with Vera. Vera had also her niece losse her baby of four months and we were burrying the baby on Monday. So it is only today that I am able to sit down and look in the computer in this internet cafe.
The school is doing very well and the children are very excited with all the good gifts I brought for them from the parish. They send love and thanks to you all.The teachers eagerly look forward to your coming over here and they cannot wait to see you here with the rest of the team members coming here with you.

Yes, indeed we would have loved to get on with the work had the money been sent by this time. We will indeed wait for the time when Roy comes back. Hopefuly the money shall be coming next week.Thankyou very much dear Jan for your concern and kindness.

A quick trip

Greetings in this Easter period in the worthy name of the risen King of kings even our Lord Jesus Christ. May the Lord’s love and blessings ever be yours and the family. May the Easter period’s true meaning in the death and ressurection of the Lord Jesus bring healing in all areas of our lives together, amen!!!

A quick trip has been arranged for me by an organization based in the U.K. who have given us some of the tools and sewing machines we have in Joy Community School. They asked me to inspect other organizations applying to them for these second hand tools and machines before they could send them any. They also liked the Joy Community School spacious rooms in which we could keep some of the tools before the owners come and collect them. I have been doing it for them voluntarily without any pay except donation of the tools to Joy Community School. They were very happy the way I have been able to go to inspect other organizations like churches and ngo organizations with projects helping the poor on Ndola in particular. So during their 20th Anniversary celebrations of the work they have been doing they decided to invite me to come over to the U.K. and speak on behalf of the organizations based in Zambia and how their tools have been able to make a difference to the work these organizations are doing. The celebrations will be in a town near London called Amersham and the organization is Workaid. They have sent me a free airticket from BA.

My arrival in the U.K. is 20th April next week. After my time with Workaid and I have planned to visit with you all in the parish from the 6th to 12th May and from 23rd May till my departure on the 26 May at Heathrow.

We eagerly also look forward to your coming over here soon ba Jan and team.May the Lord give us a memorable time together though short while Iam with you there again.

We are fine

Opening of the bore hole

We are fine and the Lord is keeping us all in His love and care for His name’s sake.
One word of the Lord that instantly came to our minds is that “IN ALL THINGS GOD WORKS FOR THE GOOD OF HIS OWN PEOPLE WHOM HE HAS CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS HOLY PURSPOSE”. It is still very exciting and we give God the glory and honour that you keep receiving more money for the Joy Community School!!!!!

Our new home has a bore hole but lacks a motor, water pump and a tank for water storage. We are promised by the area Member of Parliament that in the next two months we shall have water and may not need the borehole. It is election time this year in October and so the area MPs are working flat out to to make sure all utilities for the local people are put in place.

Mwape and the baby are doing fine. However, Mwape is worried bacuse the baby Mwiza’a teeth started coming out from the upper jaw instead of the lower one. According to our traditional beliefs if the child has teeth start off from the top jaw then that child will be gving people problems. In the olden days they would throw the child in water and let it drown. We are christians and we have encouraged Mwape to come to terms with the situation and to know that it is not something to worry her. Kindly pray with her and encourage her.
