PARISH CONFERENCE

THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT

Led by Rev Tony Baker

Weekend of Saturday/Sunday 31st May and 1st June 2008

INTRODUCTION

We are holding a Parish Preaching Weekend to which all are invited. This will be a tremendous opportunity both to get to know each other better and to grow in the Christian faith. We hope very much that you can come.

The Reverend Tony Baker will give 4 talks on the subject of Jesus’ ‘Sermon on the Mount’ (Matthew chapter 5 – 7). It will complement the Sunday preaching this year, much of which is on Matthew’s Gospel. 3 of the talks will be on Saturday 31 May. The final talk will be the Sunday Sermon at St Margaret’s Church, Ockley.

SPEAKER

Tony is married to Margaret and has 2 boys, Andrew and David. He did his Degree at to Hertford College, Oxford before training for the Anglican ministry at Clifton College, Bristol. Now retired, he started his ministry as curate at St Ebbe’s Church, Oxford. He has been vicar in 3 church situations: at Redland, Bristol, then at Christ Church, Beckenham (where he was also brought up), and finally at Hannington Memorial Church, Hove. He is a renowned expositor of the Bible.

THE PLACE

The ARK, situated behind St John the Baptist Church, Okewood. The best way to find the Church is to drive along the A29 in Ockley. You will see a sign to Gatton Manor Golf Course (or else follow signs to the Golf Course from Walliswood). Take this turn and follow it towards the Golf Course. After about a mile and before arriving at the Golf Course (after from Walliswood), you will see a sign ‘to the Church’. That’s it! Ideally park near the church and walk up the hill, although there is limited parking space (ideally for the disabled) at the ARK.

FOOD
Please bring your own packed lunch – then there will be no food costs involved!

PLAN FOR THE DAY

1000 – 1030 hrs Arrive Coffee (provided)
1030 – 1115 hrs First Talk on the Sermon on the Mount followed by questions
1130 – 1215 hrs Second Talk on the Sermon on the Mount followed by questions

1230 – 1430 hrs Lunch followed by walk

1430 – 1530 hrs Third Talk on the Sermon on the Mount followed by questions
1530 – 1600 hrs Tea
1700 hrs Vacate

CHILDREN
Depending on the number and age of children attending, facilities will be provided for them. However the talks will be directed at adults.
